Wrap-Up: Trail Running Photography on location in Malibu with model Reece Knupp
On the cusp of getting signed with Wilhelmina NY, I was photographing Reece Knupp in Malibu. The concept was to capture fitness looks among the wildflowers of Point Dume. It consisted of a range of looks–action and environmental portraiture as usual. The objective was to show Reece’s athletic ability and agility through running and plyometrics on the trails and boulders at the top of the Point.
Shot entirely in natural light with no modifiers or artificial light, we explored much of the area quickly and conveniently. Staying nimble is a cornerstone of my shoots so I can improvise and be free from gear constraints. We shot for a couple hours under the diffused light of a morning marine layer. We used the rugged and varying landscape to inspire looks and angles.
In the days following the session, I delivered the edited images so he could promptly submit to his interested agent in New York. The images were well-received and Reece soon told me he got signed. While I know it was Reece’s look and modeling experience that played the ultimate role in his signing, I do feel good having been able to provide him and the agency with fresh images that hopefully put him over the top in their minds.
