Dallas Stephens of Sports+Lifestyle Unlimited reached out to me to book a portfolio development session. She had recently been signed and was in need of fitness looks showcasing her athleticism and skills as a yoga practitioner.
This was a two-location shoot that started in a unique urban location along the Ballona Creek Bike Path in Culver City. The second location was on the beach in the Marina Del Rey area. These locations were perfect venues to let Dallas shine and to give me the space to provide her with a variety of looks within cool environments.
Once we started shooting we couldn’t stop. The session was nearly 3 hours in length, which was a joy to experience. We captured everything from yoga poses, to beach volleyball, to plyometrics and running. Mostly shot with natural light and a scrim or bounce reflector; some used a speed light for more sizzle as the evening light faded.
Dallas had a tremendous amount of energy she brought to the shoot, which allowed us to shoot that long and still get high-energy action shots. Her personality was upbeat and fun, which made it easy to give her creative direction and improvise shots along the way.
I was stoked with the resulting images and was eager to share them with her and SLU. I created an online proofing gallery per usual and retouched her selects. These were made available for her to download at her convenience. Both Dallas and Sports+Lifestyle Unlimited were very pleased with the images.
